Jamaat Ameer’s son held over militancy link

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami current Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman’s son Dr Rafat Chowdhury has been arrested for his alleged involvement in militancy.
The Bomb Disposal Unit of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained him from Sylhet district on Wednesday afternoon.
CTTC Chief Additional Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the news to the media on Wednesday night.
According to the CTTC officials, before him, three members of Ansar Al Islam namely Sejadul Islam Sahab Tanim alias Isa alias Arafat alias Anwar alias Anbir, 24, Md Jahid Hasan Bhuiyan, 21, and Syed Riaz Ahmed, 22, were arrested in a drive conducted in Sayedabad area of capital Dhaka on November 1.
The accused when asked told police that they all joined Ansar Al Islam through Dr Rafat, the Sylhet region chief coordinator of the banned militant outfit, he said.
