Training on using drones in agriculture held at BARI

The Agricultural Statistics and Information and Communication Technology (ASICT) Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) organized a five-day long training on the use of drones (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) in agriculture at the Institute’s Seminar Room on Monday. A total of 26 trainees including scientists of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, representatives of various universities are participating in the training titled ‘Open-Source Scientific Computing for Agro-Geospatial Big Data Analysis’ running from November 06-10.
BARI Director (Training & Communication) Dr. Ferdouse Islam presided over the inaugural ceremony of the training while Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam was present as chief guest. Assistant Professor of ITC, University of Twente, Netherlands, Dr. Panagiotis Nyktas was present as guest of honor and trainer. Chief Scientific Officer of the ASICT Division Dr. Md. Abdul Monayem Miah gave the welcome speech and Principal Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Dr. Md. Golam Mahbub presented the overall progress of this training course.
During the five-day training course, the trainees will get hands-on training on how to collect information using modern technology in agricultural research using drones, satellites etc.
 In the opening ceremony, speakers expressed their optimism that this training will play a very effective role in meeting the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
