Abundant supplies of fishes in Muladuli fish market

Ishwardi’s Muladuli fish market has transact crores of taka daily. Fish-laden pickups and vans line up on the Highway from dawn with headlights on. Muladuli fishing net is their destination. The sale starts at 6 am.
It can be seen on the ground, the hustle and bustle of buyers and sellers walking. The whole area is buzzing with the whirring of the shallow machine and the clamor of the vendors selling fish. Due to the demand for fish from the rivers, ponds and lakes here, this place has gained popularity in a short period of time. Apart from Arte Ishwardi, fishermen and traders from neighboring Atgharia, Chatmohar, Baraigram of Natore, Lalpur and Bheramara upazilas of Kushtia come to sell fish.
Many types of fish are available here including Rui, Katal, Chital, Silver, Pangash, Id, Bain, Kalboush, Pabda, Kai, Magur, Shing, Rita, Shoal, Kachki, Taki, Punti. In just three hours more than one crore taka daily and some days fish worth one and a half crore taka are sold.
Kabir Malitha, the uncle of Muladuli, said that Muladuli has gained popularity in four years. Fish from four to five upazilas come here. Wholesale traders from various departmental and district cities of the country including Dhaka, Sylhet, Rangpur, Khulna are coming to buy fish here. Every day in three hours more than crores of fish are sold. Jahangir Hossain of Budhu Matsya Arat said that employment has been created for hundreds of people here.
Mainuddin Hossain, general secretary of the Fishermen’s Association, said that in just a few years, Muladuli has received a response among traders and farmers. Fish trade is increasing every day. We have taken initiative to import more fish in future.
Abdul Khalek Malitha, chairman of Muladuli UP, said that the development of fish farm in Muladuli has benefited the farmers and traders of the region. The sale of locally produced fish has created employment for many people here. My full cooperation for the development of fishing continues.
Upazila Fisheries Extension Officer Zakia Sultana said that there are 2,476 ponds in Ishwardi. Besides, the Padma River flows through the upazila. Fish from the ponds and rivers here are sold in the local fish markets and bazaars. The fish here goes to the capital and various district cities of the country.
