The death toll from dengue fever has risen by 150 pc in October, comparing with the previous month.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data showed on Monday that 86 dengue patients died in October while the toll was 34 in the September.
The data included the five fresh deaths reported in 24 hours till Monday morning.
Including the latest fatality, a total of 141 dengue patients died in the country in 2022, second-highest deaths on record after the 179 deaths recorded in 2019.
Four of the latest deaths were reported from Dhaka and another from Khulna division.
With the latest record, the death toll from the mosquito borne disease in Dhaka division rose to 86 and in Khulna division to six.
The death toll remained unchanged with 38 in Chattogram, five in Barishal, four in Mymensingh, and two in Rajshahi division.
On the other hand, the number of hospitalisations from the dengue fever is also increasing every day.
According to the DGHS data, about 873 people were hospitalized in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.
Of them, 545 patients were admitted to different hospitals in the capital city while the rest 328 were outside Dhaka.
A total of 3,584 dengue patients, including 2,309 in the capital, are now receiving medical treatment in hospitals nationwide.
The data showed that 21,932 people were admitted to hospitals in October with a 121pc increased compared to 9,911 hospitalisations in September.
About 38,024 dengue patients hospitalised in different hospitals including 68pc of them admitted health facilities only in Dhaka city.
The data showed that excepting October and September the number of hospitalised dengue patients were 3,571 in August, 1,571 in July, 737 in June, 163 in May, 23 in April, 20 each in February and March, and 126 in January.
Of the total deceased from dengue this year, 84 died in Dhaka city, one in Narsingdi, one in Madaripur, 38 in Chattogram, five in Barishal, six in Khulna, four in Mymensingh and two in Rajshahi, said the DGHS press release.
