DMP requests commuters to avoid Khilkhet-Uttara-Gazipur route
Staff Reporter :
Police have asked the people to avoid the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway as large portions of it have been flooded due to the heavy rainfall during the Cyclone Sitrang.
In SMS notification, the police on Tuesday said that several sections of the pothole-riddled highway in to Gazipur via Khilkhet and Uttara in the capital city were waterlogged by heavy overnight rains.
“Traffic heading towards Gazipur via Khilkhet and Uttara is being severely disrupted. In these circumstances, we are requesting you not to use this road except for emergency purposes,” read the SMS sent by the Uttara division traffic of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Acute traffic congestions were witnessed on Uttara-airport road in the morning on Tuesday due to the waterlogging. As a result, the movement of Gazipur-bound transport via Khilkhet and Uttara is being hampered heavily, it added.
Several bus drivers on the road said that they were spent more than two hours in traffic jam in the Khilkhet area in the same place in the morning without moving an inch of space.
