Boat race held at Baraigram

The final of the traditional village boat race was held at Baraigram in Natore. On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday, this race was organized at Chiknai River under the initiative of Jinnah Foundation of Chandai Union of the upazila. Thousands of spectators turned up on the banks of the river to enjoy the final game of boating on Thursday afternoon. They encourage the contestants by clapping. Upazila Parishad Chairman Dr. Siddikur Rahman Patwari was the chief guest on the occasion. Chandai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Shahnaz Parveen presided over the award distribution ceremony. Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Anwar Hossain Dulal, Chandai Union Awami League President Shamuszzaman Golam, Organizing Secretary Wadud Sarkar, Gopalpur UP Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Abu Bakkar Siddique, Zilla Parishad Member Shah -Alam Master, former member Abul Kalam Zoardar etc. Chandai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Shahnaz Parveen said that 8 boats participated in the final race of the boat race. New Janata Express of Katakhali area of Chatmohar upazila of Pabna district was the winner and Sonartari Express of Satoil area of the upazila was the runner up. The Chief Guest presented refrigerator to the winners and LED TV to the runners-up.
Mayor, two councilors demolish boundary wall

Two councilors and the mayor of Moulvibazar’s Kulaura municipality have been accused of demolishing the boundary wall of a family. The members of the victim’s family held a press conference at the Freedom Fighters Complex in Kulaura on Thursday and raised the allegations. Sumi Akhter, a resident of Bihala area of the city, said that their father Qutb Ali died in 2009. Their father has a 65th century house in Bihala. They are four sisters. Since the death of the father, they have been enjoying the property of the father. Construction of a boundary wall about seven feet high and 100 feet long at a distance of about four feet from the road in front of their house is Sumi Akhter complained that on October 19 at noon, in the presence of Municipal Mayor Principal Sipar Uddin Ahmed, Ward No. 1 Councilor Lukman Ali and Reserved Women Councilor Sufia Begum, 40-50 unidentified people broke down the boundary wall to construct a drain on the side of the road. No prior notice was given to them for breaching the boundary wall.

Sumi’s other three sisters Raina Begum, Laylun Begum and Munna Begum were present in the conference among others.
Lukman Ali, councilor of the 1st ward of the municipality, said that according to the new map of the municipality, the boundary wall has been constructed on the road. So, it is broken for the drain.
Kamrul Hasan, assistant engineer of the municipality, said that the project work started in January. It will end in December. The length of the drain is 150 meters. The drain will be constructed from Karda Mia’s house to Qutub Mia’s house in Bihala area.
When asked about the complaint, Mayor Principal Sipar Uddin Ahmed told the media that the water drainage and waterlogging in the Bihala area is being resolved by the city.
Construction of 150 meters long drain is going on under Infrastructure Development Project. The work is expected to be completed in December. Qutb Ali’s family members built the boundary wall without municipal approval. Due to that wall, the work of the drain was being disrupted. The owner was given multiple notices to demolish the wall. But, they did not take any initiative. So, the wall was demolished.
