FAO cash support for 3000 flood affected fishers of Sylhet div

The 3,000 enlisted flood affected fishers and fish farmers of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts have got the financial support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
According to the Department of Fisheries (DoF) yesterday, a total of Tk 1.35 crore has been distributed among the 3,000 affected fisher and fish farmer families by the bkash mobile banking through their own bKash account. Each of the affected household received Tk 4,500.
This financial support has been provided from the SFERA (Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities) of the FAO. After the recent devastating flood that hit severely Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar from 16 June, 2022, the FAO had made the plan to rehabilitate the flood affected fishers’ families. After a series of meeting with Local Administration (UNO) and Department of Fisheries (DoF), FAO has selected two upazilas-Balaganj and Gowainghat-from Sylhet, three upazilas-Chhatak, Jagannathpur and Shantiganj-from Sunamganj and one upazila-Juri-from Moulvibazar for this initiative.
The upazila level DoF officials along with FAO officials were directly involved with the selection of pro-poor, vulnerable flood-affected fishers and fish farmers in close supervision and support of the respective Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO).
