The investigation team of Election Commission (EC) for detecting Gaibanda -5 constituency’s irregularities has got two types of opinions from election management team and candidates.
All candidates of Gaibandha-5 (Fulchhari-Saghata) by-elections have claimed that there were a lot of irregularities in polls and that’s why they boycotted the polls, except the Awami League nominated candidate.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of police (SP) have said that they did not see any irregularities in polls. Even no one has filed any complaint with them.
Four candidates and DC SP have faced EC’s investigation team on Thursday. Yesterday was the last day for three day long investigation.
EC’s investigation team has interrogated about 622 people on three days. Of them were five candidates, DC, SP, 17 Executive MagistrateS, RAB and BGB commanding officer, police officials at voting centres, returning officers and others related people.
After facing interrogation, Bikalpodhara candidate Jahangir Alam said to the newsmen there was no positive environment for fair polls. And for that we four candidates boycotted the polls and we said it to the investigation team.
Jatiya Party (JaPa) candidate Golam Shahid said the Election Commission stopped the election after finding irregularities. If the commission can restore confidence through this by-election, then there may be a possibility of elections with the participation of all parties. We told these things to the investigation committee.
