The workers of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have alleged that they were unfairly dismissed from their jobs. They have also given 6 points demand including immediate reinstatement.
Dhaka South City Corporation Scavengers and Workers Union placed this demand in front of the National Press Club on Thursday.
Akhter Dewan, former president of the City Corporation Transport Workers’ Union, said that the mayor unfairly dismissed the employees. It’s not right. In this way, you cannot sack the job by going outside the rules. These employees are keeping Dhaka city clean.
Fired cleaners say, we pass our days with various difficulties with low wages.
But mayor Tapas fired us. We have been working day and night for a long time to keep the city beautiful.
We have lost jobs and are living inhumane lives. Where do we go now with the family? What to eat? Do not see any way except to die without eating? We want our jobs back immediately.
The demands of the cleaners include: Ensuring one-time payment of Tk 10 lakh to the retired worker, Tk 8 lakh in case of death of a worker while on duty as per government rules, accommodation of contract cleaners and scavengers and ensure the cancellation order of unfair dismissal of the workers’ union leaders and other sanitation workers.
In this regards when asked, Mohammad Abu Naser, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of DSCC told The New Nation that actually we don’t have any information about the protest.
