Home ministry gets nearlyTk4,000cr

The allocation for the Home Ministry has been increased by nearly Tk 4,000 crore in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, bringing the total proposed outlay to Tk 31,099 crore.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the budget proposal in Parliament on Thursday, marking the country’s 55th national budget and his first under the current government.

According to the proposal, the Home Ministry’s allocation has been increased from Tk 27,174 crore in the revised FY2025-26 budget to Tk 31,099 crore in FY2026-27.

The Finance Minister presented the budget in the presence of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Prior to its presentation in Parliament, the proposed budget was approved by the Cabinet.

The total size of the FY2026-27 budget has been set at Tk 9,38,000 crore, while the revenue target stands at Tk 6,95,000 crore.

The budget deficit is estimated at Tk 2,43,000 crore.

To finance this gap, the government plans to mobilize funds from both domestic and foreign sources. Of the total deficit financing, Tk 1,16,000 crore is expected from foreign loans and grants, while Tk 1,27,000 crore will come from domestic sources.

Within domestic borrowing, Tk 1,12,000 crore is targeted from the banking sector, while Tk 15,000 crore is expected from savings certificates and other instruments.

The government said the increased allocation for the Home Ministry is aimed at strengthening internal security, law enforcement capacity, and administrative infrastructure.
