Sheikh Russel Day observed

The Sheikh Russel Day was observed in Bagerhat District Town and its all the nine Upazilas in a befitting manner on Tuesday marking the 59th birthday of Father of the Nation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s youngest son Sheikh Russel. Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in the year of 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmandi, Road No.32 in the capital city of Dhaka.
The day’s programme started with the placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel by Mohammad Azizur Rahman, DC, Bagehat in his conference room at 9 am. Then the floral wreaths were also placed at the portrait by the different socio-cultural organizations. It was followed by a grand rally that brought out from the office premises of the DC paraded the various roads and ended at the starting point.

Birth anniv of poet Rudra Md shahidullah celebrated

The 66th birth anniversary of poet Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah was observed in his native village Mithakhali under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat on Sunday through various programmes organized by Rudra Memorial Organization and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote . On the occasion a lively discussion meeting was held in the Govt. Rudra Primary School on the life and works of the poet. It was presided over by Nur Alam Shaikh, the former President of Rudra Memorial Organization while it was addressed by Utpal Kumar Mondol, Chairman of Mithakhali Union Parishad as the chief guest. The discussion meeting was addressed among others by teachers Molla Afzal Hossain, Shikua Begum, Obaidul Islam and CPB leader Comrade Asaduzzaman Tito and UP Member Ukil Uddin Izardar. It was rounded off with a colourful cultural function.

Decomposed body of old woman recovered

A half decomposed dead body of an old woman named Niharika Haldar, wife of one late Khitish Haldar was recovered from a steel trunk in her residence in the village Betkata under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday afternoon. Only son of Niharika Haldar is a service holder and her 3 daughters are married. So, she alone was living in her husband’s residence of the village. It was disclosed to the newsmen by S M Ashraful Alam, Coordinating Officer of Bagerat district police media cell on Monday in the evening. The Officer added, finding the house under locked and key for the last 2 or 3 days the neighbouring people suspected that there had been something wrong and informed her 2nd daughter Radhika Shikdar of the matter.

Bullet injured business man dies

Zahid Mir (38), a business man who sustained severe bullet injured in the village Kakdanga within Mulghar Union under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday succumbed to his injuries in a private Hospital in Dhaka at the night of Sunday while he was undergoing treatment there. It was confirmed by Mohammad Shamsuddin, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Model PS. The deceased was the son of one Abul Hossain Mir of Boira area in Khulna City Corporation. But he was living in the village Kakdanga under Fakirhat Upazila in connection with his business.
It may be mentioned here that on Friday afternoon (at about 2 pm) the deceased was returning home from a mosque of the village Kakdanga after saying Jmma prayer and when he just crossed some 200 yards a number miscreants appeared before him by a motor bike, opened several rounds of gun fire on him with a pistol left and right and fled away quickly. As a result, the business man sustained grievous bullet injuries on his person. He was at first admitted to the local Upazila Health Complex for treatment. But considering his precarious condition he was shifted to Khuln Medical College Hospital for better treatment and when his condition became deteriorated there he was taken to Dhaka by an ambulance and admitted to a private Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at Sunday night while he was undertaking treatment.
Fatema Begum, wife of Zahid Mir lodged a case with Fakirhat PS mentioning the names of 5 persons and without mentioning the names of many others on Saturday in connection with the gun fire incident. Mohammad Shamsuddin, Officer-in-charge of the PS told, one person named Moazzem Hossain (55) was arrested so far in connection with the matter. The officer added, police are trying their best to find out the reason behind the incident and to arrest the rest accused persons.

Madrasa student commits suicide
After being offended over his father Rahat (14), son of one Harej Hawladar, a meat trader of village Bakultala within Southkhali Union under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerht district and a student of Class-VII of the local Sonatala Madrasa committed suicide taking insecticide on Monday morning (at 6 am). The student was at first admitted to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex for his treatment. But considering his precarious condition he was shifted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for better treatment where the physicians on duty declared him dead on the same day at 10 am.
 It is learnt from the locals that on the day in the early morning Harej Hawladar became ready to go to a market in order to purchase a cow. But when he counted his deposited money he found Tk.1 (one) thousand was short from the total amount. So, the father suspected his son Rahat for this and rebuked him. But the son Rahat could not it easily, became very offended over his father and as mark its protest he committed suicide taking insecticide (kept in the house).
