Sheikh Russell Day was observed in Barisal on the 59th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through rallies, tributes, discussion meetings and award distribution ceremonies.
At ten o’clock in the morning, the leaders and activists of Awami League and other organizations paid their respects to Sheikh Russell’s portrait adjacent to the party office. District Awami League Secretary Advocate Talukder Md. Yunus said, by killing the father of the nation, the killers wanted to take Bangladesh to the old way of thinking. For which the child also killed Russell. The murderers feared that Russell had the blood of the father of the nation in his veins. If they live, their dreams will fail. But the assassins did not succeed. They demanded an investigation committee to find out the leaders behind the murder. A colorful rally was taken out from Bangabandhu Udyan in the city on Tuesday (October 18) at 9 am organized by the divisional and district administration of Barishal which ends at district Shilpakala Academy Auditorium.
Later, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Amin Ul Ahsan, Barishal Range DIG SM Aktaruzzaman and representatives of various departments paid their respects by placing wreaths on the temporary portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Russell.
Later, a discussion session was held in the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium with the slogan, Sheikh Russell is the epitome of serenity, brave, lively and fearless. Barishal Divisional Commissioner Amin ul Ahsan was the chief guest.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner Barisal Jasim Uddin Haider was the special guest in the event attended by Barishal Range Additional DIG. A. KM Iqbal Hossain, Barishal Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) Sanjay Kumar Kundu, Barishal District Superintendent of Police Wahidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Mandeeb Gharai, Conscious Citizen Committee (SANAK) President Professor Shah Sajeda along with the district administration.
Sr. Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports : The Sheikh Russel Day was observed in the country on Tuesday in a befitting manner coinciding with the 58th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s youngest son Shaheed Sheikh Russel.  
Rassel was brutally assassinated along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu, on August 15, 1975 when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.
Many socio -cultural organisations, Shishu Academy including District Administration in. Kishoreganj have arranged various programme likes rally, discussion, cultural function and prize distribution among the childrens marking the Sheikh Russel Day . The ruling Awami League( AL) leader Dr. Syeda Zakia noon Lipi MP attended as chief guest while DC Mohammad Shamim Alam presided over.
Police Super Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar), District Awami League general secretary advocate M. A.Afzol were special guests.
A discussion meeting was held at local Collectorate Conference room on Tuesday morning.

Tarash (Sirajganj) correspondent says: A rally and discussion meeting was held on the occasion of Sheikh Russell Day at Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj organized by Upazila Administration on Tuesday. The programmes includes wreath laying, rally and discussion meeting at Sheikh Russell’s mural. Under the chairmanship of UNO Tripti Kona Mandal.

BSS from Khulna reports : The 59th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed Tuesday in a befitting manner in the city and district.The birthday programmes include – cake cutting, discussions, milad and doa mahfils, cultural functions, rallies, painting competitions, tree plantation and distribution of foods among the destitute people.
Khulna District Administration, Awami League and its associate organisations, Khulna Shishu Academy, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Mongla Port Authority, West Zone Power Company Ltd, has observed elaborate programmes including cake cutting, milad and doa mahfil, rally, discussion, cultural function, essay and art competition and tree plantation programme.
