The High Court on Tuesday wanted to know what steps had been taken against the responsible persons, including the five former deputy governors of Bangladesh Bank, involved with the plundering of Tk 3700 crore. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other respondents have been asked to inform it by October 27.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order on a Suo Moto (voluntary) move considering a newspaper report.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Deputy Attroney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
A newspaper report published recently said, a total of Tk 3700 crore had been embezzled from Bangladesh Industrial Finance Company Limited (BIFC) and International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL) by taking illegally as unsecured loans.
Out of the amount, a total of Tk 3130 crore was taken in the name of Prashanta Kumar Halder, better known as PK Halder, who is now imprisoned in India, and his different organizations. And Major (Retd) Abdul Mannan, General Secretary of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, and his organization took Tk 600 crore from the BIFC, according to the report.

It also wanted to know in the rule to explain as to why the respondents should not be directed to consider the 88 persons who were convicted in the martial court as the patriot.
The High Court bench of Justice K M Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
The individuals who faced the trail and their family members filed the writ petition on April 28, 2019.
The court also wanted to know in the rule as to why the respondents should not be directed to pay due compensation to the convicted families along with their arrears of salary, retirement allowance and fringe benefits as per the normal service period.
The Defense Secretary, Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Army and Air Force chiefs have been asked to comply with the rule within four weeks.
Lawyers Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Matiur Rahman appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the writ peititoners, while Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud represented the state.
