Victims families seek DU Admin’s interference to release

DU Correspondent :
The family members of the arrested students who were attacked by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists and arrested from Dhaka Medical College Hospital while at treatment have sought Dhaka University’s administration interference to release them.
The family members along with Nurul Hoque Nur, Member-Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Junaid Saqi, Convenor of Gono Songhoti Andolon, met DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman to submit memorandum asking DU authority to take initiatives for release of innocent students of the university.
Earlier around 12 pm, they gathered in front of the National Museum at Shahabag and marched toward to the office of DU Vice-Chancellor.
After an-hour long conversation with DU Vice-Chancellor Nurul Houqe Nur held a press briefing.
Nurul Houqe Nur said, “I am the latest VP of DUCSU and I am concerned with the rights of the students of this campus. BCL activists attacked the activists of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad activists in hospital, which crossed the last stage of cruelty.”
“Today, I along with the guardians of arrested students met with the Vice-Chancellor and he assured us to take proper steps in this regard, ” he added.
Junaid Saqi said, “We were the students of this university too. During our time, there were vives in this campus and activists of different political party could arrange their programs. But today, it seems like the opposition parties are being tried to be suppressed.”
“We have never heard the incident about attacking injured in the hospital. But it is a reality that BCL activists attacked the activists of opposition party in the hospital. Nevertheless, police arrested the injured from the hospital instead of arresting the attackers,” he added.
“If this system continues, the situation will be worsening day by day. No one should cross the bottom line of discipline. We, as the representatives of the conscious guardians of the students, came to the vice chancellor’s office and he assured us to do his best.”
DU Vice-Chancellor said, “There is not much dissimilarity with their demands. They spoke very earnestly some of which are essential to build a good society.”
“We may take various measures for anti-disciplinary actions that have within our control. And there have something under the state law, we have nothing to do there but we have a professional duty to stand by a student if he is in trouble,” he added.
