Shilpakala Academy pays tribute to artist SM Sultan

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) paid tribute to legendary artist Sheikh Mohammed Sultan (SM Sultan) organising a day-long programme in Narail on October 10, said a press release.
BSA organised the event in association with District Shilpakala Academy in Narail to observe the 28th anniversary of the death of SM Sultan and lift the curtain on preparations for SM Sultan’s birth centenary celebration.
Director General of BSA, Liaquat Ali Lucky, Deputy Commissioner of Narail Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Director of Fine Arts Department of the BSA artist Mini Karim and others paid tribute to SM Sultan placing floral wreaths on his grave in the morning.
An art camp was held on a boat on Chitra River from 9:00am. A total of 120 children participated in the art camp held on the river and 200 children participated in another art camp, which was held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Rupganj in Narail.
The artworks created by children were displayed in a daylong art exhibition held at Shishu Swargo and artworks by leading artists were displayed in District Shilpakala Academy in Narail.
Artist and researcher Shawon Akand delivered a speech about the artworks of SM Sultan at District Shilpakala Academy, Narail. Tareque Masud directed documentary film titled Adam Surat was screened at the academy at 12:30pm. Besides, Liaquat Ali Lucky conducted a children’s theatre workshop at the Academy from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
A discussion meeting and awards giving ceremony were also held in the evening on that day. Liaquat Ali Lucky was present as the chief guest at the programme. Mini Karim delivered the welcome speech at the event, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Narail, Mohammad Habibur Rahman.
After the discussion, eight renowned bauls, Sameer Baul, Lovely Sheikh, Aynal Haq, Farzana Eva, Manik Dewan, MR Manik, Rita Mandal and Khepa Bidyut entertained music lovers singing folk songs.
