BD lose to Lanka in Women’s T20 Asia Cup

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team lost to Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket team by three runs (according to the Duckworth/ Lewis Method) in their rain-interrupted group match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Monday. Sent into bat first, Sri Lanka made 83 for the loss of five wickets in 18.1 overs.
Later, Bangladesh were set a target of 41 runs to win in seven overs.
Bangladesh scored 37 for the loss of seven wickets in seven overs.
Meanwhile, favourites India Women’s Cricket team thrashed Thailand Women’s Cricket team by nine wickets in the day’s other match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at the same venue.
Chasing Thailand’s fragile total of 37 off 15.1 overs, India romped home making 40 runs for the loss of one wicket when they had 14 overs to spare.
Nannapat Koncharoenkai of Thailand was the only batter who reached double digit figures making 12 from 19 deliveries with one fours.
Sneh Rana of India grabbed three wickets at the cost of nine runs. She was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets each instead of eight and 10 runs respectively. Besides, Meghna Singh took one wicket for six runs.
Later, opener Sabbhineni Meghana remained unbeaten with 20 runs. She hit three fours in her 18-ball knock. Pooja Vastrakar remained unbeaten with 12 runs. Her run-a-ball innings saw two fours.
Nattaya Boochatham of Thailand took one wicket for 15 runs.
Earlier, Captain of Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team Nigar Sultana was the only batter of her team who could reach double digit figures. She made 12 from 11 balls featuring one four.
Inoka Ranaweera captured four wickets in the space of seven runs. She was adjudged the Player of the Match for her outstanding bowling performance.
Oshadi Ranasinghe took one wicket instead of 13 runs.
Earlier, third-down Nilakshi de Silva remained unbeaten with 28 runs. She hit two fours in her 31-ball innings. Opener Hashitha Samarawickrama notched up 18 from 31 deliveries including two fours.
Besides, Kavisha Dilhari and Hasini Perera added 11 runs each to the Sri Lanka’s total.
Rumana Ahmed bagged two wickets at the cost of 14 runs, while Sanjida Akter, Fahima Khatun and Jahanara Alam took one wicket each for 13, 16 and 17 runs respectively.
