Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested at least 38 people from the city’s Uttara Kingfisher Bar on charge of selling illegal local and foreign liquor and beer.
At the time, detective team of Uttara Division seized around 5,400 illegal local and foreign liquor from the spot.
Earlier, DB police conducted the operation on Thursday (October 6) night.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Mohammad Harun Or Rashid disclosed this information in a press conference at DMP’s media center on Friday noon (October 7).
DB Chief said, in order to avoid the eyes of the administration, famous brands of liquor were
bought and sold inside the restaurant.
Domestic and foreign liquor business has been conducted behind the signboard of the restaurant without license. Muktar, who worked as a waiter at a restaurant in the capital, became a millionaire by selling drugs. Five thousand 400 bottles of local and foreign liquor and beer were found during the operation at the Kingfisher Bar on Thursday night, he said.
According to DB, the bar has been running for a long time in a six-storey building. The bar authority could not show any reliable approval.
During the drive, hundreds of people were found drunk in the bar. At that time, 38 people including the bar manager were arrested.
However, the mastermind Muktar Hossain is absconding. A case has also been filed against him.
The arrested persons are identified as Abu Saleh, Md. Mohan, Mukul, Md. Sibbir Ahmed, Russell, Abul Kasem Mintu, Nahid Dariya, Shanto Islam, Alim Uddin, Jalal Uddin, Sajjad Hossain, Rahmat Ali, Khalek Saifullah, Imran, Md. Sahan Sheikh, Md. Mofazzel, Obaid Mazumder, Ibadat Khan, Rais Uddin, Raihan, Md. Ruble, Rifat, Faisal, Shariful Islam, Russell, Zahid Hasan, Roshan Jamil Russell, Humayun Kabir, Tofazzal Hossein , Md. Riyad Hussain, Al Amni, Qayyum, Nayan Das, Shaon Das and Mahmudul Hasan.
Haroon Or Rashid said that the bar was visited by different people every day. Among them there are men and women of various professions including high-level government officials, lawyers and doctors. Not only the sale of liquor, but also the complaint of anti-social activities with women found in the bar, he said.
According to DB, Muktar Hussain ran five bars in different places including Mirpur, Gulshan and Narayanganj.
