SCC sacks seven employees

The Sylhet City Corporation (SSC) sacked its seven employees and suspended another after 535 pieces of water-flow metres worth about Tk 28 lakh were stolen from a warehouse in recent days.
The SCC authorities also served show-cause notices on three officers of the Water Department of the corporation asking them to explain their positions, the Nagar Bhaban sources said.
They said that the incident of stealing was detected on September 26 but the authorities were handling the incident carefully.
SCC superintendent engineer Ali Akbar confirmed the stealing incident and said that Hasan Mahmud Masum, operator of Khushighat Water Treatment Plant of the city corporation, was suspended and seven other irregular employees got sacked from their jobs for their suspected negligence in discharging duties.
He said that the manual water-flow metres were kept in the warehouse of the water treatment plant.
‘The SCC mayor also formed a three-member committee to probe into the incident,’ Ali Akbar said.
SCC water section’s Executive Engineer Abdus Sobhan said that he lodged a general diary with the Shah Paran police station on behalf of the city corporation.
He also admitted that the corporation authorities also served show-cause notices on the superintendent engineer Ali Akbar, himself and assistant engineer Anamul Haque Tapader following the incident.
