Govt bound to listen to EC’s recommendation, says EC Alamgir

Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir said, the government is constitutionally bound to listen to what the EC recommends.
“Considering the braches of code of conduct, EC has issued letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) saying that strain action will be taken if anyone breaks the electoral code of conduct”.
He said it while speaking with the journalists in his Agargoan EC headquarter office on Thursday.
EC Commissioner Alangir said the EC urged all concerned and also ruling party Member of Parliament (MPs) to strictly follow the rules of electoral conduct in the Gaibanda-5 constituency by-polls Zilla Parishad election.
He said EC’s would not accept any kind of
unlawful activities as well as break down the electoral code of conduct.
If the administration and law enforces agencies fail to follow the rules, EC will take action as per EC’s law he added.
Earlier on the day EC directed DCs and SPs across the country to ensure a peaceful environment in the upcoming Zilla Parishad polls slated on October 17.
The commission has taken all the necessary steps for free, fair and neutral election, according to a Directive issued on Thursday signed by SM Asaduzzaman, director (public relation) of the commission and also joint secretary (CC) of election commission secretariat.
