BD overwhelm Malaysia in Women’s T20 Asia Cup

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team overwhelmed Malaysia Women’s Cricket team by 88 runs in their group match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 129 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then shot out Malaysia for a paltry 41 off 18.5 overs.
Bangladesh had an unhappy start as opener Shamima Sultana (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Sasha Azmi when Bangladesh’s total was naught.
After Shamima’s dismissal, Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque put on together 34 runs for the second wicket partnership before Fargana Hoque (10) was stumped out by Aina Najwa off Mahirah Izzati Ismail when Bangladesh’s total was 34 for the loss of two wickets.
After Fargana’s departure, Murshida Khatun and Nigar Sultana contributed together 87 runs in the third wicket stand before Nigar was caught by Sasha Azmi off Winifred Duraisingam when the home side’s score was 121 for the loss of three wickets.
Nigar Sultana played a captain’s knock of 53. Her 34-ball innings was decorated with six fours and a sixer. Nigar Sultana was adjudged the Player of the Match.
After Nigar’s dismissal, Murshida Khatun was run out by a direct throw of Nur Arianna Natsya when Bangladesh’s total was 122 for the loss of four wickets.
Murshida Khatun hit a fine 56. Her 54-ball innings was laced with six fours.
Sasha Azmi, Mahirah Izzati Ismail and Winifred Duraisingam took one wicket each for 15, 17 and 17 runs respectively.
Later, Malaysia batters totally failed to resist superb bowling attack of Bangladesh. No Malaysia batter could reach the double digit figures.
Debutante Fariha Trisna scored a hat-trick. She dismissed Duraisingam in her second delivery of the fifth over. Then, she removed Mas Elysa in her third delivery and fulfilled her hat-trick after picking up Mahirah Izzati Ismail in her fourth delivery.
Fariha captured three wickets in the space of 12 runs, while Rumana Ahmed, Sanjida Akter and Fahima Khatun bagged two wickets each instead of one, four and eight runs respectively.
Besides, Salma Khatun took one wicket for four runs.
