Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in their do-or-die Group-B match of the Asia Cup at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates today. The Twenty20 International (T20I) match will begin at 8.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). State-owned television channel BTV, private satellite channel GTV, private satellite channel Nagorik TV will telecast the match live. The winners of the today’s match will get the ticket of the ‘Super Four’ berth. If the match ends in no result, Bangladesh will move into the next round, by virtue of better run rate.
Afghanistan have already confirmed their ‘Super Four’ berth bagging maximum four points from two matches.
Afghanistan registered a massive eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in their first Group-B match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 27.
Afghanistan posted a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their second Group-B match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on August 31.
Before today’s match, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka faced each other in 12 T20I matches. Of them, Bangladesh recorded four victories, while Sri Lanka won in eight occasions.
It may be mentioned that after showing a poor batting performance Bangladesh failed to restrict their opponents Afghanistan in the Tuesday’s match.
Afghanistan needed 65 runs in last six overs to win against Bangladesh in a slow pitch, which was a tough task. But the worse bowling by Bangladesh pacers, Afghanistan chased the winning total with remaining nine deliveries.
Captain of Bangladesh T20 Cricket team Shakib Al Hasan felt sorrow for Tuesday’s defeat. Shakib gave a status on his Facebook. He wrote, ” We missed the opportunity in today’s match. But we shall return strongly in our next match. I believe that we shall comeback powerfully against Sri Lanka.”
On the other hand, Captain of Sri Lanka Dasun Shanaka said, “We have been playing a lot of cricket with Bangladesh team, so we know the exact plans of them. So it will play a major role in the next game. So it will be a lot easier knowing their plans and knowing their players.”
“So it’s obvious that every team knows nowadays about the opposition, unless they don’t play regular International cricket, I mean the lower rank countries. So it helps playing against Bangladesh when it comes to international cricket” he added.
