Arguments for Subhan end

Arguments for Jamaat Nayeb-e- Ameer Mawlana Abdus Subhan, charged with committing crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation, concluded on Sunday at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2.
Barrister Ehsan A Siddique, counsel for Subhan, today argued on legal points for his client. Earlier on November 27, advocate Mizanul Islam, senior counsel for Subhan, concluded his arguments on charges that were framed against the 78-year-old Jamaat leader.
The prosecution concluded their part of arguments on November 17.
Earlier, a total of 31 prosecution witnesses testified against Subhan, narrating the heinous crimes committed by the Jamaat leader during the War of Liberation. But none vouched for Subhan, although the tribunal allowed the defence to produce three defence witnesses.
Subhan was indicted on December 31, 2013, on 9 counts of crimes against humanity by the ICT-1. On March 27, 2014, the ICT-1 transferred the case to ICT-2 suo moto.
Meanwhile, at the ICT-1, the prosecution concluded arguments in the trial of fugitive Engineer Abdul Jabbar, former Jatiya Party MP from Mothbaria of Pirojpur. Prosecutor Tapos Kanti Baul argued on legal points.
The ICT-1 adjourned the hearing of the trial till today.
The ICT-1 on August 14 indicted Jabbar, allegedly the chairman of Mothbaria unit of Peace Committee during the War of Liberation, framing five charges of crimes against humanity against him.
