Shilpakala Academy commemorates August 21 carnage with visual art show

A special three-day visual art show titled ‘STIGMATIZED DAY’ was held from August 21 to 23 at Nandan Mancha of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on commemorating the August 21st grenade attack carnage.
The Fine Arts Department of BSA organised the event with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, said a press release.
Curated by artist Abhijit Chowdhury and co-curated by Sujon Mahahbub and Shubhra Talukder, the performance art programme showcased the graphic representation of the brutal Dhaka grenade attack which took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by the Bangladesh Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on August 21 in 2004.
The visual art exhibition was inaugurated by State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid as the chief guest on August 21, while Secretary of the Ministry Md Abul Monsur joined the inaugural event as its special guest. Ashim Kumar Ukil, Awami League lawmaker and cultural affairs secretary of its central committee, was present as a discussant at the event, which was presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky. Annually organised since 2016, this special installation visual art show is monitored and supervised by BSA Fine Arts Department Director Syeda Mahbuba Karim and Coordinated by its Deputy Director A M Mostak Ahmed.
