The baby girl who was born during a road accident that left three of her family members including parents dead on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway recently, is finally sent to the ‘Chhota Moni Nibash’ at Azimpur in the capital.
The District Child Welfare Board sent the newborn child to the Chhota Moni Nibash from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at 11am by a microbus on Friday (July 29) through the Department of Social Services.
Mymensingh District Child Welfare Board President and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque confirmed the matter.
They said that the decision to send the newborn baby to Dhaka Shishu Nibash was taken after several meetings of the district administration and Trishal
upazila administration and social services department. The decision was taken considering the future of the child, they added.
Deputy Director of the Mymensingh office of the Department of Social Services, Wali Ullah said, “The child was sent to ‘Chhota Moni Nibash’ from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Friday morning. ” She was sent there with the opinion of the baby’s grandfather and other relatives.”
He also said that it had been decided to name the child “Fatima” as per wishes of the board and the family.
The child’s grandfather Mostafizur Rahman said, “We wanted to keep our granddaughter close to us to take care of her. But since my home environment is not good, the Mymensingh District Administrator has decided to send the child to government children’s home taking our opinion.”
He also said, “I am happy with such a decision of the administration. My granddaughter will stay in ‘Chhota Moni Nibash’ for the next 6 months. During this time I can visit her as a guardian at any time. I will bring her to my home after that time.”
The child was born after a truck hit the mother’s stomach on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district. Meanwhile, the child’s father Jahangir Alam (42), mother Ratna Begum and six-year-old sister Sanjida died.
After that, the child was admitted to the private Labib Hospital in the city after first treatment at the Trishal Upazila Health Complex. After various physical problems including Jaundice, the baby’s treatment was given at the NICU of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. At present the child is completely sound.
