1,12,055 hectares of standing crops in 15 districts affected by flood

A total of 1,12,055 hectares of standing crops and vegetables especially Aus paddy in 15 districts have been badly affected by the recent floods, and the apprehension of further flood has not yet been over.
Hundreds of farmers of the districts are worried as the flood water has not yet receded from their crop lands.
They are now waiting for the next Aman cultivation in many districts when the flood situation will improve to recover the loss.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said, a total of 63,123 hectares of Aus paddy has totally been damaged in the 15 districts by the floods in several phases.
As long as the flood situation is not being improved, the farmers will have to wait for the Aman cultivation which has only a period of one and a half month.
The flood affected districts are Sunamganj, Sylhet, Habiganj, Maulvibazar, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrokona, Sherpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Brahmanbaria, Tangail, Gaibandha, Bogura and Sirajganj.
Of the most flood-affected districts, a total of 13,803 hectares of Aus paddy and vegetable fields were affected in Sunamganj, 29,246 hectares in Sylhet, 29,970 hectares in Habiganj, 12,739 hectares in Maulvibazar, 13,7111 hectares in Kurigram, 5556 hectares in Sirajganj, 2,738 hectares in Jamalpur and 3,594 hectares in Brahmanbaria districts.
In the 15 districts, a total of 63,129 hectares of Aus paddy, 18,973 hectares of transplanted Aman and 9,498 hectares of vegetables and 606 hectares of seedbeds were badly affected by the flood.
Sylhet DAE office sources said, the district had a total of 33,746 hectares of Aus paddy in the fields and the flood had submerged a total of 29,246 hectares of crops.
After the estimation, the district agriculture office found a total loss of 23,399 hectares of Aus paddy in the flood.
The Sylhet district also had 11,980 hectares of vegetables in the fields and the flood has damaged a total of 29,62 hectares of vegetables.
