War crimes charge hearings over Mahidur, Afsar to begin Dec 1

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Monday took cognisance of the charges brought against detained Mahidur Rahman, 84, and Afsar Hossain Chutu, 65, former Muslim League leaders of Chapainawabganj, in the case of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
Passing the order, the tribunal set December 1 for charge hearing against the duo, leaders of Muslim League that opposed the Liberation War in 1971.
The prosecution submitted three allegations against the two war crimes suspects that include killing of 24 people after capturing 39 people, plundering and torching of 70-80 houses, and killing of four people after abduction during the Liberation War. The accused 1971 Razakar commanders are now in custody in a criminal case over bomb blast at the Shaheed Minar altar at Shibganj on March 26 this year.
Mahidur hails from village Dadanchak while Afsar from village Satrashia in Shibganj of Chapainawabganj.
The accused, allegedly members of Razakar militia, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani occupation army, were arrested in a criminal case on September 16 and later the prosecution prayed to show them arrested in the war crimes case.
