Vehicles set fire by hartal supporters

Staff Reporter :Miscreants set fire on three passenger buses, a private car and a covert van in the city’s Kawranbazar and Azimpur areas and in Gazipur district on Wednesday during the Jamaat-e-Islami’s non-stop 48 hours hartal against the death sentence awarded to its leader Kamaruzzaman.Three passengers were injured in the incidents, Fire Service and police sources said. Palassey Fire Service Unit Operator Farid Uddin said that a passenger bus of Shaymoli Paribahan was set to fire by unidentified miscreants near the Daily Star Office at Kawranbazar around 8.10pm.”The passengers got down from the bus safely. Two fire-fighting units rushed to spot and put out the fire in half an hour, the fireman said.In the city’s Azimpur, another gang of miscreants set a passenger bus ablaze near the Azimpur Orphanage intersection mor around 8:15pm, the Fire Service official said. He said that the fireman rushed to the spot and doused the blaze in an hour. In Gazipur, pro-hartal activists set fire to a private car, a covered van and a passenger bus in different parts of the district, said Khandakar Rezaul, Officer-in-Charge of Joydebpur Police Station.
