Disney to remove scenes of intimacy from Eternals for int’l markets
Marvel’s Eternals have been banned from theatres in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar. Before the ban, the film was set to premiere on November 11 in these countries as part of the film’s global rollout across the Gulf region.
As per reports, several edit requests were made by local censors that were denied by Disney. Reports also claim that the decision to pull the movie from theatres was due to the inclusion of a same-sex couple in the film. Phastos, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)’s first homosexual superhero,
is played by Brian Tyree Henry, and his husband Ben is portrayed by Haaz Sleiman. Now, as per reports, an edited version of ‘Eternals’ will release in various Middle Eastern markets like Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. This censored cut will remove all instances of intimacy. This practice
is common in these markets.
