31 UP chairmen to be elected unopposed

In second phase Union Parishad (UP) polls which is scheduled to hold on 11 November, about 31 chairmen are going to elect unopposed as there are no opposition candidates.
EC sources said after scrutinizing if their candidacy tested valid then there is no need to hold polls in 31 out of 846 UPs.
It is known that those who are going to elect unopposed most of them are nominated by ruling Awami League (AL). It was not possible to know by EC Secretariat that how many general members and reserve female members are going to elect unopposed as there is no specific list for single candidate.
In second phase polls for 846 UPs, there are 41,785 nomination papers submitted. Of them, 4,075 for chairmen post, 28,149 for general members and 9,561 for reserve female members post, added the EC sources.
Sunday (October 17) was the last day for nomination paper submission. EC has announced the polls schedule for 848 UP in second phase. Later, EC has postponed two UP elections. Out of 4,075-nomination papers submission for chairman post, 2,655 have submitted as independent candidate.
According to the announced schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the second phase of UP elections is October 17, selection of nomination papers is October 20, the filing of the appeal against the decision of selection is from October 21 to 23, appeal disposal on October 24 and 25, withdrawal of candidature on October 26 and symbol allotment on October 27.
Single candidates in those UPs’ are Saidabad of Sirajganj Sadar, Fulsara of Jessore, Chougachha, Hazrapur of Magura Sadar, Gotapara of Bagerhat Sadar, Gangni of Mollarhut, Rashidpur of Jamalpur Sadar, Kamarerchar of Sherpur Sadar, Bouliardi and Halimpur of Bajitpur, Bairra of Singair of Manikganj, Sonaichhari, Mirsarai’s Kerhat, Dhum, Osmanpur, Katachara, Maghadia, Mayani, Haitkandi and Ichakhali, Comilla’s Laksam’s Kandirpar, Gobindpur, Uttarada, Azgara and Laksam East, Feni’s Fulgazi’s Fulgazi and Anandpur.
In first phase UP polls which was held in 20 June, 28 chairman out of 204 and in another polls held in 20 September, 45 chairmen out of 160 elected unopposed.
