A Dhaka court yesterday (Sunday) deferred the date for submission of probe report in the journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case RAB Assistant Director, Assistant Police Super Wares Ali Miah did not submit the report to the court on Sunday.

Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order on Sunday fixing December 9 as the new date. However, the IO informed the court that earlier, progress report of investigation was submitted on last March 20, August 13 and September 18.
Wares Ali also said that DNA samples of 21 suspects including relatives were sent to the United States to match with the seized items of the case. Besides, the depositions of 150 people including the victims’ colleagues, their close relatives and other concerned persons were recorded Under Section 161 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Meanwhile, the prosecution received the DNA report from USA and it is being reviewed. The probe report will be submitted soon depending on the investigation and the DNA report, the IO added.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of private TV channel Maasranga and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their rented flat in the capital’s West Rajabazar on February 11, 2012.
