Students, microbus drivers clash in Sylhet, 25 held

The police have detained 25 people following a clash between the students of Shahjalal City College students and microbus drivers in the Sylhet city’s uposhohor area on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the students engaged in an altercation with the microbus drivers over a trivial matter around 12 noon. At one stage, they locked into a clash, leaving some five college students injured.
Rahmat Ullah, Additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police said, Acting on a tip-off, the police rushed in and fired tear-gas shells, rubber bullets and charged batons to control the situation. He said 25 people, including the students, have been detained from the spot.
Ohee Alam Reza, Lecturer of Shahjalal City College alleged that the microbus drivers beat up some students and vandalised the college building during the clash. Later, five students were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital, he added.
