Prothom Alo editor summoned
bdnews24.com :Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman has been summoned by a court in Jhalakathi in a case in which the Bangla daily has been accused of ‘hurting religious sentiments’ in several of its reports.The plaintiff, a lawyer named Md Gani Amin Baklia, filed the case against Rahman and photographer Majid Khan Under Sections 295 and 298 of the Penal Code on Thursday.Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam accepted the plea and ordered the defendants to be present in court on Nov 16, said Additional Public Prosecutor M Alam Khan Kamal.The plaintiff has submitted ‘several Prothom Alo reports containing photos’ in court, he added. Section 295 (A) of the Penal Code stipulates that whoever deliberately affronts religious feelings will be fined or imprisonment for up to two years.Section 298 says an offender can be fined or jailed for maximum one year for deliberately saying things to hurt religious feelings.
