Writ seeks protection for all sculptures including Bangabandhu

A writ petition has been filed on Sunday with the High Court seeking its directions upon the respondents to take necessary steps for the protection of all sculptures in the country, including the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Uttam Lahery, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ petition on Sunday in the concerned section of the High Court Division.
The petitioner also requested from the High Court a ruling upon the respondents to explain as to why a direction should not be given upon the respondents to take necessary steps in preventing the
anarchy or disorder or lawlessness and crection of the sculpture of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He also sought a direction upon the respondents to spread out the knowledge among the people that the matter of installation of the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not connected with any religious spirit at all. Rather, it is a rather symbol of independence.
Later Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi mentioned the petition in the High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam. The bench admitted the petition, but didn’t hold any hearing on Sunday.
Nahid Sultana Juthi told the reporters that the court might hold hearing on the petition on Monday (today).
Home secretary, religious affairs secretary, liberation war affairs secretary, inspector general of police, director general of Islamic foundation and khatib of Baitul Mukarram national mosque have been made respondents in the petition.
Meanwhile a group of pro-Awami League lawyers of the Supreme Court a human orgainsed chain program on the Supreme Court premises demanding exemplary punishment for the vandalism of a under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu at a of five roads in junction Kushtia town.
Former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Advocate Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, Advocate Nurunnahar, Advocate Mofiz Uddin, Advocate Anna Khanom and Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, among others, addressed in the program.
