DMP intensifies road discipline drive with 6,300 cases
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic division has filed 6,300 cases against traffic law violators across the capital in a two-day enforcement drive aimed at improving road discipline.
During the drives conducted on Thursday and Friday (July 30 and 31), DMP traffic units also dumped 1,436 vehicles and towed 305 others from different areas of Dhaka.
The DMP traffic division launched the enforcement campaign across the capital as part of its continued efforts to ensure compliance with traffic laws and bring discipline to city roads. According to DMP data, the Traffic-Wari Division recorded the highest number of cases, filing 2,521 cases against violators.
The Wari division took action against 646 buses, 403 trucks, 231 covered vans, 259 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 424 motorcycles during the two-day drive.
The Traffic-Mirpur Division followed with 1,839 cases involving 289 buses, 129 trucks, 164 covered vans, 164 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 713 motorcycles. The Traffic-Uttara Division filed 506 cases during the period, including 25 buses, 26 trucks, 28 covered vans, 82 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 140 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Motijheel Division lodged 450 cases against vehicles including 40 buses, three trucks, 26 covered vans, 102 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 185 motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the Traffic-Tejgaon Division filed 340 cases involving 13 buses, five trucks, 14 covered vans, 74 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 157 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Gulshan Division recorded 262 cases against violators, including 23 buses, seven trucks, 12 covered vans, 32 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 91 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed 198 cases involving 16 buses, eight trucks, four covered vans, 17 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 117 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Ramna Division registered the lowest number of cases among the eight traffic divisions, filing 184 cases against 10 buses, two trucks, five covered vans, 14 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 73 motorcycles.
The DMP said its traffic enforcement drives would continue across the capital to maintain road discipline and ensure safer movement for commuters.
The DMP traffic division regularly conducts enforcement campaigns against vehicles and drivers violating traffic rules, including illegal parking, route violations and other offences affecting road management in Dhaka.
