Staff Reporter :
Police recovered the decomposed bodies of four persons (couple and their two children) from a six-storied building at Kolakandi village under South Keraniganj upazila in Dhaka district on Wednesday morning. The identities of the deceased could not be known instantly but the spouses were of middle age and the children below seven years.
Law enforcers picked up two persons to record their statements in this connection. They have been identified as Sohel alias Sumon, the caretaker of the deceased’s house, and Abbas, a auto-rickshaw driver. Police suspected that the deceased were strangulated around 48 hours ago. But their names and identities could not be known instantaneously, police sources said.
Quoting the locals and caretaker of the building, South Keraniganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir said that Sohel went to the house in the morning to collect the house rent and finding the door open entered the flat and smelt bad stink at the place.
Police recovered the bodies
following information at about 10:30am. The hands and mouths of the bodies were tied with ropes, the OC said.
The police official said that the incident took place on the first floor of the building owned by one Shamsu Mia, who has been living in Saudi Arabia for several years. “We suspect that the murder might have taken place one or two days ago,” the police official said.
He said that law enforcers are yet to find out any clue of the murder. He said that a man named Rafique rented the house two months ago.
The arrested persons are being interrogated at the police station, said the OC, adding that the bodies had been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) and Hospital morgue for autopsy. RAB-10 officials and Crime Investigation Department (CID) officers visited the spot, he said.
