Preparations afoot to observe Durga Puja

The Hindu community people have been continuing preparations to celebrate their greatest religious festival of Durga Puja in Rangpur division with huge enthusiasm this year, official sources said.
Leaders of the local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) and concerned district administration sources said the five-day festival will begin on September 30 and conclude through immersion of the idols on the Bijoya Dashami on October 4.
An all-time record number of over 5,200 puja mandaps are being erected in all 58 upazilas under eight districts in the division this time, the sources said.
To assist the Hindu community people in celebrating their greatest religious festival, the government has allocated more than 2,100 tonnes rice for distribution among the puja mandaps authorities in Rangpur division.
The mandaps authorities have put maximum efforts and the idol-makers have been working round the clock for completing erection of the idols timely.
According to official sources, necessary steps have been taken for peaceful celebration of the religious festivity in festive moods in Rangpur division where the highest number of puja mandaps is being erected this year. The Power Devotement Board and Rural Electrification Board authorities have taken necessary steps to provide uninterrupted power supply to the puja mandaps to enable the Hindu devotees in offering prayers, puja, archanas, kirtons and other rituals smoothly.
Talking to BSS today, President of Rangpur district unit of BPUP and Trustee of the Hindu Kallyan Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the government for peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja.
“In Rangpur, a total of 776 puja mandaps are being erected in all eight upazilas and city corporation area this year,” he added.
Sylhet Correspondent reports: Preparations for holding Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Communities in the country, are progressing fast throughout the district as the commencement of the annual event draws nearer.The 4-day long festival of the largest community will begin this year from September 30 with due respect and religious fervor.The festival will conclude on October 03 through the immersion of idols at different water bodies as the community will celebrate the Bijoya Dashami.
Assistant General Secretary of Central Puja Celebration Parishad (DPCP) Adv Mirtonjoy Dor Vula said a total of 2356 puja mandaps would be erected in all the twelve upazilas in the district this year.The number of puja mandaps increased by 107 this year than the previous year, he also said. Of the total, some 45 puja mandaps would be erected in Sadar upazila, 27 in Dakshinsurma, 60 in Golapgonj, 54 in Beanibazaer, 93 in Jokigonj, 29 in Kanighat, 32 in Guainghat, 19 in Jointapur, 27 in Compnigonj, 23 in Biswanath, 59 in Balagonj and 37 in Fanchugonj upazila of the district.
