Dengue appears as big threat in Dhaka
Amid the monsoon rain, fear of dengue outbreak goes in more than 25 Wards in Dhaka city, identified as vulnerable for the disease.
A recent survey revealed it. The National Malaria Elimination and Aedes Transmitted Disease Control Programme under the Health Directorate conducted the survey from July 19 to 28 within the jurisdiction of the two city corporations of Dhaka.
The survey report has been published on Thursday.
According to the findings of the survey, at least nine Wards under Dhaka North City Corporation are at risk of dengue outbreak.
It also showed that about 16 wards of Dhaka South City Corporation are also in the same risk of the out break of the mosquito-borne disease.
The survey report revealed that density of Aedes larvae in these Wards exceeds 20, which is considered hazardous.
The DNCC Wards are 10, 11, 17, 19, 21, 23, 24, 29, 32.
The DSCC Wards 2,4, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 25, 34, 40, 41, 45 and 51 have huge breeding hotspots of Aedes mosquitoes.
According to the survey report, DNCC’s Ward 17 in and DSCC’s Ward 51 identified as the highest risky areas.
It also said that about five Wards under both city corporations were marked as low risky units.
Public health experts also expressed their anxiety fear the possible dengue outbreaks in the country.
Experts said, the drizzling of the monsoon added the threat of dengue outbreak.
They said, while people are facing hardship due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemics, they have been relaxed to keep house surrounding clean.
As a result, number of containers are found inside their homes in two city areas.
Besides, water bodies were found full of Aedes mosquitoes larvae in both cities, which is responsible to dengue and chikunguniya spreading.
“The relaxant of eliminating Aedese breedings hotspots might create risks of outbreak of the fatal diseases which may push the country in a hazardous situation,” said Dr. Mukhles uz Zaman Hero, former Deputy Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
He said as the previous years passed with huge outbreak of dengue disease, the people as well the administrative authorities should be more aware to prevent the outbreak.
