New bridge to change economic condition of 5 lakh people

The newly constructed second bridge over the river Mohananda at Shaheberghat area will change the life of about 5 lakh people of seven unions of sadar upazila.
The Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) constructed the bridge at a cost of Taka 49.79 crore and it is likely to be opened to traffic in November this year. Md. Abdul Wadud, lawmaker of Sadar constituency said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the bridge on April 23, 2011 and it is expected that the prime minister would inaugurate the bridge.
More than 5 lakh people of seven remote char unions named Islampur, Devinagar, Charbagdanga, Shahjahanpur, Alatuli, Narayanpur and Sundarpur of Sadar upazila remained isolated from the upazila and district headquarters due to the river obstruction.
The people of these unions had been demanding a bridge over the river Mohananda.
