Ershad, Raushan hold separate meetings
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and his wife Raushan Ershad, who is also Leader of the opposition, held separate meetings along with their party followers in the Parliament Bhaban on Sunday evening.
Earlier on Saturday, Raushan convened the emergency meeting of JP Parliamentary Party [JPPP] to discuss some issues including relieving of Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam and Moshiur Rahman Ranga, state minister for LGRD, from the JP presidium.
She held the JPPP’s meeting at the Opposition Leader’s room in the second floor of the Parliament Bhaban where out of total 40 JP MPs about 28 lawmakers took part.
But Ershad and his group boycotted the meeting of the JPPP saying that they did not get invitation.
Rather, they held a separate meeting at the party chief’s office on the first floor which Ershad got as a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Some JP lawmakers including party’s secretary general and PM’s adviser Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, water resources minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Abu Hossain Babla, MA Hannan, Munim Chowdhury, Md Noman and Salma Islam took part in Ershad’s meeting.
Sources said some JP MPs including Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Yahiya Chowdhury and Selim Uddin attended both the meeting while five JP MPs remained absent in both the meetings. “There is no division or conflict in the JP. However, Ershad, Bablu and a section of JP lawmakers were not present in the meeting due to their personal decision,” Chunnu said.
