The BNP-led 20-party alliance has announced a two-day programme as a mark of protest against the government’s move to empower the Parliament to impeach Supreme Court (SC) judges.Nazrul Islam Khan, Standing Committee member of BNP, made the announcement in an emergency meeting held at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.He said, the alliance will bring out processions and hold rallies across the country today and will stage demonstration in the capital tomorrow.”The government has taken the decision to empower the members of the Parliament, majority of whom are not elected, to impeach the judges with a view to consolidating its power, he said. “It is not acceptable to the people who have already showed resentment against the government’s stand.”The venue and time of the demonstration in capital, however, were not announced in the meeting. It will be done later.
