Lawyers hoisted black flags in observing ‘Democracy Killing Day’

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, observed ‘Democracy Killing Day’ on Monday (December 30) at the Supreme Court hoisting black flags from 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm.
The members and supporters of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum tried to go on the main road with a rally but police prevented them. The lawyers then staged a protest in front of the gate of the Supreme Court.
They demanded immediate resign of the government as they were calling
‘illegal’ as well as they chanted slogan for release of all political detainees including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Convener of the Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain said, “We will not seek release of Khaleda Zia from this rally rather the people of the country will bring this government into trial.”
Member Secretary of the organization Advocate Fazlur Rahman, Supreme Court Bar Assocaition (SCBA) Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, former President of the Dhaka Bar Association Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder, Advocate Taimur Alam Khankaker, Advocate Abed Raja, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, among others, gave speech in the rally.
The BNP-led coalition, Jatiya Oikya Front, took part in the national election on December 30, 2018. BNP bagged six seats while Gono Forum two in the election.
The coalition turned down the 2018 election results bringing various allegations of irregularities, including ‘massive vote robbery and nighttime ballot stuffing’.
