Assaulting DU journo protested

DU Correspondent The students of Mass Communications and Journalism Department of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits who beat a journalist on the premises of Fine Arts Faculty on Wednesday evening.The victim, Arifur Rahman, is a 3rd year student of the department and also, sub-editor of online news portal ATN Times, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after receiving multiple injuries in his head, hands and nose. The students placed this demand at a human chain held at the base of Oparajeyo Bangla. They alleged that the BCL central unit cultural affairs secretary Ashiqur Rahman Rono along with his followers beat Arif at Fine Arts Faculty on the campus at around 8pm on Wednesday.They said the victim came under BCL attack although he produced his identity card as DU student and tried to enter Fine Arts Institute.Demanding punishment to the BCL leader, they said that Rono must be punished as early as possible.”If the university authorities don’t take action against the BCL leader, we will go for tougher programmes” they warned.Meanwhile, a case was filed with Shabagh Police Station against the BCL activists involved in the incident.
