Ilias urges govt

Implement RTA ignoring barriers

Staff Reporter :
Ilias Kanchan, the Chairman of ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ urged the government to implement Road Transport Act-2018 ignoring all barriers of vested quarters.
“The government should realize the importance of the RTA-2018. It should take legal actions against those people, who are creating barriers against implementation of the people-friendly Road Transport Act 2018,” said Ilias Kanchan while addressing a press
conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Saturday.
The government tried several times to reform the 1983’s Motor Vehicles Ordinance to make it up-to-date. But, certain vested quarter always acted against it. He urged the government not to bow down to any pressure in the interest of safe road across the country.
He also urged the motor workers to think of their own future with the people’s right to safe journey.
“Reportedly one thousand motor workers-drivers and their associates are killed in road accident every year. Did the owners take responsibility for their deaths? Did they [the vehicle owners] spend anything for your safety, constructed any hospital for your medical treatment or any training institute?” He questioned transport workers who went on a strike in view of initiative to apply the Act earlier this month.
The popular actor and the pioneer of road safety movement said,”People are suffering due to conspiracy. However, this temporary suffering will end if Road Safety Act is executed.”
Syed Ehsanul Haque Kamal, Secretary General of Nirapad Sarak Chai, Joint-Secretaries Lion Gani Mian Babul and Sadek Hossain and Publicity Secretary AKM Obaidur Rahman were present.
