BD fight to avoid innings defeat
Bangladesh have fought to avoid innings defeat making 152 for the loss of six wickets in the second innings against India on the second day of the second Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the former capital of India on Saturday. It is mentionable that the Kolkata Test is a Day/Night affair and as well as pink-ball Test. Both teams for the first time have taking part in the Day/Night and pink-ball Test.
Bangladesh needed 89 runs to avoid innings defeat.
Earlier, India declared their first innings after piling up 347 for the loss of nine wickets on the second day.
After winning in the coin-session, Bangladesh decided to bat first and were dismissed for a
fragile 106 in the first innings on the first day (Friday).
India resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 174 for the loss of three wickets.
Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 59 and 23 runs respectively. After that Rahane added more 28 runs on the second day before he was caught at the point by Ebadat Hossain off Taijul Islam when India’s score was 236 for the loss of four wickets.
Rahane hit a polished 51. His 59-ball innings saw seven fours. It was Rahane’s 22nd Test half-century.
Then Virat Kohli was the only Indian batsman who shone with the willow. He notched up 136. His 194-ball innings was ornamented with 18 fours. It was Kohli’s 27th Test century. Al-Amin Hossain and Ebadat Hossain grabbed three wickets each conceding 85 and 91 runs respectively, while Abu Jayed got two wickets for 77 runs.
Later, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad were the two Bangladeshi batsmen, who got success in batting.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 59, while Riyad was retired hurt making 39. Riyad hit seven fours in his 41-ball innings.
Pacer Ishant Sharma captured four wickets at the cost of 39 runs, while Umesh Yadav bagged two wickets for 40 runs. The third day’s play will begin at 1.30 PM.
