Govt failed to keep sports sector stable: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Awami League government failed to create a stable sports sector.
“The incident involving Shakib Al Hasan is unfortunate. Undoubtedly, Shakib is a very talented
 cricketer and he is the part and parcel of our cricket team,” said Fakhrul.
The BNP leader said this in a press conference in the BNP’s central office, Nayapalton after a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies on Wednesday.
A two-day programme has been designed to observe the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, marking what it said the civil-military ‘uprising on November 7, 1975.
The BNP Secretary, “terming the ICC’s ban on iconic superstar all rounder Shakib Al Hasan as unfortunate, said with optimising that he will return to the stadium soon.”
“The cricket lovers of the country have been shocked at the ban on Shakib since he will not be able to play the cricket for one year. I think that such shocking incident will not be repeated in the days to come, added Mirza Fakhrul.
He said, “The Awami League government has disappointed the nation as they could not maintain the peaceful nature of sports, which is the most popular entertainment sector in the country.”
Fakhrul is also optimist of Shakib’s return with better performance, after serving the punishment.
“Sometimes people conspire against the great performers, but I should not say more before the proper investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, BNP yesterday chalked out a two-day programme to observe the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, marking what it said the civil-military ‘uprising on November 7, 1975.
As part of the programmes, he said their party flag will be hoisted atop the party’s offices across the country on the morning of November 7, while BNP leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer fateha at the grave of late President and party founder Ziaur Rahman at 10 am.
The party will also arrange a discussion in the city either on November 6 or November 8, marking the day.
Besides, BNP’s associate bodies will hold various programmes, including discussions, cultural programmes, essay competition and photo exhibition.
Stating that November 7 is the most important day in Bangladesh history, Fakhrul said, they have decided to observe the day with due respect.
He said their party and its associate bodies will mark the day taking various programmes throughout the month.
Fakhrul said their party will take steps for publication of supplements in newspapers and distributing leaflets on the occasion.
Amid political turmoil, soldiers and civilians on November 7, 1975 jointly freed the then Chief of Army Staff Major General Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment.
