Gold seized at Osmani Airport

Customs Intelligence officials seized 350 gm gold at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Saturday morning. Customs Intelligence directorate officials said Razu Miah, a resident of Sylhet district. Arrived in Sylhet from Dhaka via Dubai on an BG 052 Airlines plane at 11am. On a tipp-off, a team of customs officials searched the baggage of Razu and recovered the 350 gm gold in his possession.
Journalist Mukul’s death anniversary observed

The 16th anniversary of death rebel journalist RM Saiful Alam Mukul was observed in Jessore on Saturday. Jessore Press Club, Journalists Union of Jessore, Mukul’s family, Jessore Journalists Union and several other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. The programmes include wearing black badges, placing floral wreath at the memorial and grave of the martyred journalist, doa mahfil and discussion meetings.
Chaired by Noor Islam, the discussion meeting arranged by Journalists Union of Jessore was addressed among others by Fakir Shaukat, Ahsan Kabir, M Ayub, Tuahid Zaman and Sarwar Hossain.
Tailoring shop gutted in Barisal

Fire gutted a tailoring fashion shop and damaged another one at Battala area in Barisal city on Saturday afternoon. Fire Service and affected shop-owners said fire instigated from Ridwan Fashion Tailors and Fabrics at about 3:10 PM Saturday near the Raju Miar Pol on Major M A Jalil Road at Battala area in the city. Fire Service men rushed to the spot controlled the flame within 3:40 PM, said Md. Alauddin, senior station officer at Barisal Fire Service and Civil Defense Station. Ridwan Fashion Tailors and Fabrics gutted fully and adjacent Jeba General Stores damaged partially by the fire assumed as created from an electric short circuit, he added.
Tree fair begins in Narsingdi

A seven daylong tree fair organised by District Administration , Department of Agriculture Extension(DAE) and Department of Forest began on the out side of the local stadium in Narsingdi on Saturday. State Minister for Water Resources Lt Colonel(retd) Nazrul Islam (Birpratik) inaugurated the fair as Chief Guest while Deputy Commissioner Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman presided over it. ADC (General) Suriaya Begum , ADC (Revenue) Kamal Hossain , Narsingdi Pourashava Mayor Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Deputy Director DAE, Narsingdi Suvash Chandra Gayan, Divisional forest officer Hossain Mohammad Nashad and District Fishery Officer Chowdhury Mohammad Abul Farah were also present in the inaugural function.
