Allocate Tk 1000cr for climate action: TIB
Staff Reporter :
Anti-corruption civic platform Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Saturday urged the government for allocation of Tk 1000 crore in the coming budget to combat the impact of climate change.
Tk 700 crore per year was allocated for Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF) during the first three years, but the amount has not been increased considering climate change-related risks, Dr Iftekharuzzaman,
Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), said in a statement.
The decreased amount of funding against the increased risk of climate change is very unfortunate, he added.
So, to cover the deficit fund of BCCTF, he urged the government to allocate Tk1000 crore in the next budget.
The body also demanded practical guidelines to ensure clarity and accountability in the spending of the funds.
