Student Union election must for skilled leadership: Hasan
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Thursday said, there is no alternative to student union election in flourishing leadership in the county.
He also urged the Chittagong University administration to organise the CUCSU election as early as possible to pave the way for future leadership.
The minister said this as the chief guest while addressing the golden jubilee programme of CU Chemistry Department on
the campus on Thursday. CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and other teachers of the Chemistry department spoke at the programme, among others.
Hasan Mahmud said, “To flourish leadership, there is no alternative to holding student union election. I would not have been able to come to this stage had I not been involved in student politics in my college and university life. So, I am urging the university authority to organise the much awaited CUCSU election soon.”
The victory of several non BCL panels’ candidates in the polls clearly proved that DUCSU election was held in a fair and peaceful manner, he said.
Some of those who boycotted DUCSU election have been elected in several posts including that of the DUCSU Vice President, he said.
“If the election was not fair, how they (boycotters) were elected in those posts,” he inquired.
“Though few irregularities were reported from the polling stations, I am hopeful that we will overcome this next time,” the minister said.
The DU authorities are investigating the allegations of irregularities, he also said.
“Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in every sector in the last 10 years and has become a role model for the world,” Hasan Mahmud said.
