Over 29 acres of land of Dhaleshwari River grabbed
A total of 29.60 acres of land of the Dhaleshwari River in Manikganj has been grabbed by two private companies, a club and 46 individuals, according to a report submitted to the High Court on Monday.
Manikganj’s District Administration submitted the report as per an order issued by the HC in October last year.
According to the report, most of the land grabbers occupied the land on the foreshore area of the river and few others have filled with sand and constructed
two structures in its land.
The report was produced in the HC Bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal.
Earlier on October 23, the HC Bench asked the District Administration to submit the survey report following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a rights organization.
The HRPB’s lawyer, Manzill Murshid, yesterday submitted another petition to the HC seeking an order on the government to evict the land grabbers from the river.
The HC Bench also fixed February 25 for further hearing and passing order on the petition, Advocate Manzill Murshid told the reporters.
