Viqarunnisa students threaten to boycott classes from today

A large number of students of the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on Saturday warned of boycott of classes if detained teacher Hasna Hena, who was sent to jail on charge of instigating a Class IX student Aritree Adhikary, was not release immediately.
They said it from a protest programme held in front of the school gates on the Dhaka’s Bailey Road around 11am on Saturday.
Hundreds of students took part in the programme with placards chanting slogans like “Amader ma nirdosh” (Our mother is innocent).
Captain of Class XI Anika Ishraf Ikra told the media that the protesters would boycott classes from today if Hasna Hena was not released.
She claimed that Hasna Hena did not instigate Aritree to commit suicide.
Adding that ex-Viqarunnisa students are supporting them, Ikra said: “We cannot accept our teacher’s insultation in words or by sign. Hasna Hena is like our mother.
“We want her release without delay,” she said. The students said, the principal of the school and college was responsible for Aritree Adhikary’s murder.
“Arrest the principal and her accomplices and release innocent Hasna Hena,” they said.
Meanwhile, classes resumed at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College on Saturday.
Those guardians, who joined the protests, said, as Hasna Hena is just a class teacher, she did not take the decision to expel the student.
They said, the authority to take the decision rests on the Principal in every case.
Other guardians said even though Hasna Hena was innocent, she was the only one to have been sent to the jail, sparing other two, who were also accused.
On December 6, a Dhaka court turned down Hasna Hena’s bail petition and sent her to jail.
On December 6, Viqarunnisa management sacked acting Principal Nazneen Ferdous and morning shift in-charge Zinnat Akhtar, alongside Hasna Hena, as per government orders that came after two days of protests over Aritree’s death began.
The monthly pay-orders (MPOs) of all three teachers were also cancelled.
Two investigation committees, one by the government and another by the school authorities, were also formed to investigate the matter.
The victim’s father, Dilip Adhikary, accused Hasna Hena, Nazneen Ferdous, and Zinnat Akhtar, of instigating the suicide, in a case filed with Paltan Police Station on December 4.
According to the first information report (FIR) filed with the Paltan Police Station, Aritree committed suicide on December 3, after her parents were summoned to the school and told that she would be given a transfer certificate, because she was caught with a mobile phone in an examination hall the day before.
Aritry and her parents pleaded with Zinnat, the morning shift in-charge, and later the principal, to forgive her and let her take the rest of the exams, but both the teachers were unmoved, Dilip further claimed.
